How Do I… Access Resources from Off-Campus?

If you’re doing research using Search It, make sure you are logged in. If you’re doing research outside of the Libraries’ website, try using the WSU Libraries’ Proxy Bookmarklet.

Research Roadblock? Gain access with a click

Using the WSU Libraries’ Proxy Bookmarklet

When doing research off-campus, your browser may not recognize that you are affiliated with WSU. The proxy bookmarklet is an easy way to get immediate access to a resource online, without having to halt your research and track down the source on the library’s website

Step 1: Add the bookmarklet to your browser

To add the bookmarklet to your browser, drag & drop the WSU Libraries Proxy link to your bookmark bar. Depending on your browser, bookmarking this link may work differently.

Step 2: Click on the bookmarklet when you need access to full-text

While researching outside of the Libraries’ website or accessing links to resources through your email, you may hit a paywall when trying to access the full-text. To access a resource through the libraries’ subscription, click on your WSU Libraries proxy bookmarklet and login with your WSU network ID and password.

This will either open the full text or take you back to the article’s page, which will look similar, but the URL will show that you are accessing it via the WSU Libraries. When you click on the PDF link, the article will open.

Remember this might not work 100% of the time. If you still can’t access the full text, go to the Libraries website and try looking for it in Search It. You may need to request the article through Interlibrary Loan.
