How Do I… Access Online Resources from Off-Campus?

When doing research off-campus, your browser may not recognize that you are affiliated with WSU. Below you’ll find easy ways to get immediate access to a resource online, without having to stop your research and track down the source on the library’s website.

Using LibKey Nomad

If you are doing research outside of the Libraries’ website, use LibKey Nomad. LibKey Nomad connects you to full-text library resources with one click. It is a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or a Chromium-based browser (Brave, Vivaldi). Note: LibKey Nomad is compatible with desktop/laptop browsers only and is not compatible with mobile- or tablet-based browsers.

To start using LibKey Nomad, install the extension for your browser. Once installed, select Washington State University from the drop-down menu, then navigate to a site like PubMed to see how LibKey Nomad instantly notifies you of available full text and connects you in one click.

Using the WSU Libraries’ Redirector Bookmarklet

If you’re doing research outside of the Libraries’ website using an unsupported browser, use the WSU Libraries’ Redirector Bookmarklet for most resources.

Research Roadblock? Gain access with a click

Step 1: Add the bookmarklet to your browser

Drag and drop (do not click) the following to your bookmarks:

Step 2: Click on the bookmarklet when you need access to full-text

While researching outside of the Libraries’ website or accessing links to resources through your email, you may hit a paywall when trying to access the full-text. To access a resource through the libraries’ subscription, click on your WSU Libraries Redirector bookmarklet and login with your WSU network ID and password.

When you click on the PDF link, the article will open.

Remember this might not work 100% of the time. If you still can’t access the full text, go to the Libraries website and try looking for it in Search It. You may need to request the article through Interlibrary Loan. For help with issues on using the proxy bookmarklet, please contact the WSU Libraries Helpdesk at libraries.helpdesk@wsu.edu.
