Constitution Day 2025 Public Reading Set for Sept. 17

Going into the 250^th anniversary of the United States in 2026, this year’s Constitution Day seems special. To celebrate Constitution and Citizenship Day on Wednesday, Sept. 17, WSU Libraries will sponsor a round-robin public reading of the Constitution (with amendments) starting at noon in the Terrell Library Atrium on the Pullman campus. The reading takes about an hour; if there is interest, organizers will do a second reading. The event is free and open to the public; drop-ins are welcome. A silent reading kiosk will be available starting Monday the 15^th for those who can’t make the reading but would like to participate.

Once again, WSU Libraries and WSU Global Campus are collaborating to provide a virtual component of the public reading at noon Pacific Time on Tuesday, Sept. 16. In addition, a virtual exhibit highlights four major periods of time and events that created the U.S. Constitution between 1787-1792, as well as two timelines on the ratification of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Constitution and Citizenship Day is designated by law to commemorate the signing of the Constitution in 1787 and to “recognize all who, by coming of age or by naturalization, have become citizens.” For more information, see the national Constitution Day website or contact Social Sciences and Government Information Librarian Lorena O’English.
