Pullman's biggest is Sunnyside Park on the Western slope of (where else?) Sunnyside Hill.

Most days this is a quiet place to hang out.

There's a well-equipped children's playground near the large picnic shelter.

This dog was so intent on retrieving a stick that he swam right by a family of ducks in the pond.

On the Fourth of July, Sunnyside Park is jammed with thousands of people listening to music, eating barbecue and home-made pie, waiting to watch the fireworks sponsored by the Pullman Chamber of Commerce. Although there are shuttle buses available, the traffic jam afterwards makes walking an attractive alternative for those living nearby.

Or better yet, get yourself an invitation to one of the many parties held in back yards with a view of the spectacle.
