Which leads us to our favorite local bookstore: BookPeople, 521 S. Main, selling mostly new but some used titles. Owner Bob Green always has great suggestions when you're looking for something to read. Special orders of books not in stock generally come in a few days.

There's an espresso stand and the region's most varied selection of serious periodicals, including the daily and Sunday New York Times, which Bob will hold for you if you buy a subscription. BookPeople also sells used (and a little new) music on CD, LP, and cassette as well as renting a wide variety of foreign, classic, and documentary films on videotape. This is your chance to catch up on those Masterpiece Theatre series you missed.

But above all, this is a real, classic BOOK store. Author signings and readings occur on a regular basis, and people know to come here to buy tickets for community events or just catch up with what's going on in the community.
