Back Back

On the way back, downriver, the boat pulled up near the shore so we could view these ancient Native American petroglyphs on the Nez Perce reservation (detail view at right).

All in all, a very satisfying trip, though it would be interesting to repeat in the spring when the hills are green. Shooting through rapids on a jet boat is a bit like experiencing air turbulence in a plane--not all that much fun, especially going downstream--so we wouldn't mind higher water levels covering some of the bumpy spots. At the end of the day we felt we'd really been somewhere special--and not that far away.
