Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Irwin Nash is a commercial photographer who resided in Seattle as of 1991. He engaged in a photography project in the 1960s and 1970s to document the life experiences of Chicano migrant laborers in the Yakima Valley in Washington State.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The collection consists primarily of 319 black and white contact prints, with approximately 9500 images, depicting migrant labor and life in Washington's Yakima Valley between 1967 and 1976.

MASC staff utilized descriptions provided by Nash, but enhanced the information and arranged the contact sheets so that most places and subjects were brought together.

Note: The numbering of the contact sheets and the negatives does not line up, and so the negative sheet numbers are included parenthetically with the descrition for each positive contact sheet. In case of error, check the back of each contact sheet for the negative numbers written there.

Each contact sheet (or sets of sheets) usually has about 20 to 36 different images. Identified images are listed below, but may not be complete.
