Lothar Kreck was a Washington State University faculty member for over 26 years, serving as Director of the WSU Hotel and Restaurant Administration program and Ivar B. Haglund Distinguished Professor. He retired in 1997.

This collection reflects his avocation as a musician and self-taught composer who began writing music in 1953.

This collection includes manuscripts of musical compositions by Lothar Kreck, as well as preparation notes, printed music, and audio recordings of performances of his compositions.

Preliminary inventory:

MS.2005.11. Manuscripts of four original compositions by Lothar Kreck: Silesia, China (Along the Ming River) (LK note: Maui Symph. Orch.), Russia, Andalusia (My Heart Beats Loud and Fast) (LK note: Eugene Symph. Orch.)

MS.2009.34. Manuscripts of original compositions by Lothar Kreck: Soggetto (LK note: piano solo, 2010), Nimbus Moments (LK note: piano solo), Si Vis Me Flere... (LK note: string quartet), Remembrance (LK note: organ, 2005), Celebration (for Organ), Northwest Reflections: Kamiakin Asks (LK note: chamber orch. and chorus).

MS.2011.02. Music manuscripts: Sonata Concertante (LK note: cello and piano), Consideration IV (cello and violin), Consideration V (violin; in memory of Ysaye), Consideration VI (oboe and bassoon), Adagio (LK note: nonet for woodwind and brass), Suite Concertante (LK note: for Timpani and 2 Pianos), Northwest Reflections: Kamiakin Asks (for chorus and chamber orchestra), Piano and Chamber Orchestra (update 10/8/2013: copies originally donated were withdrawn and replaced with more complete version of printed score and parts).

MS.2012.07. 31 digital audio recordings (MP3 format). Most are of performances of Lothar Kreck's compositions, copied from compact disks. It includes paper copies of associated descriptions (labels, program notes, etc. from compact disks and cases).

MS.2012.11. Music manuscripts (reproductions) by Lothar Kreck: (1) Why, Oh Why?, 1990, (2) Concerto for Piano and Chamber Orchestra, 1998/2005 (copy of manuscript parts), (3) Opus 8 for 2 Pianos, 1996.

MS.2013.11. Preparation papers (notes, drafts, etc.) for several of Lothar Kreck's compositions; it also contains finished compositions (reproductions). Opus 8 for 2 Pianos, 1996 (duplicate?), Consideration II (cello and alto flute), Consideration III (cello and mezzo soprano).

MS.2014.16. Music manuscripts (reproductions), printed music, and related documents: Consideration IV (oboe and bassoon), Consideration IV (violin and cello), Consideration V, Consideration III (cello and mezzo soprano), Consideration II (cello and alto flute), Suite Concertante for timpani and two pianos (2 items), Piano Concerto, Adagio, Why, Oh Why?, Celebration (organ), Heureuse Tristesse, Opus 8, Soggetto, Remembrance, Northwest Reflections, Nimbus Moments, Si vis me flere (score and piano part), Sonata concertante for cello and piano.
