These seniors have dedicated themselves to various departments, gaining invaluable skills and insights that will play a crucial role in their professional careers. I worked for the library in high school. My mom worked for a medical library, and I just thought it was cool, and I loved reading,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bernardo works as a staff assistant, overseeing two clerical assistants. She is the go-to person when her students have questions or need help.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen you first get hired, you are paging, shelving, and mailing books,\u201d she said. \u201cThen you can get promoted to be a staff assistant.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What stood out the most to Bernardo was her job\u2019s flexibility, accommodating her demanding hours as a double major. Beyond the practical skills she\u2019s gained, she enjoyed the interactions with the range of students\u2014graduate, undergraduate, and staff. After discovering her inclination for public speaking at Spokane Community College, Wieber decided to pursue a degree at WSU, following in the footsteps of her family members with ties to Pullman.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wieber discovered the WSU Libraries\u2019 Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections (MASC) when she arrived and was offered an internship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI kind of do a bit of everything,\u201d she said. \u201cI learned how to process collections, digitize, complete research requests, and I\u2019ve taken over the Facebook page.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wieber said she is excited to go into MASC every day. Her passion for librarianship makes each day a new experience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c[MASC] opened up a world for me,\u201d she said. \u201cBeing able to talk firsthand with all the archivists here and the staff is amazing. They are open with their experience and their librarianship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wieber plans to pursue a career in librarianship in Montana after graduation and in time receive her master\u2019s degree. WSU had the hometown feel, and cherry blossoms in the spring, which she loves.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guyangco came across an opportunity to work at the WSU Libraries her junior year as a reference assistant.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI wanted to look for a job to gain experience with customer service and leadership skills to help me better my resume,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a reference assistant, she organizes books and catalogs, works with the annual Crimson Reads celebration of WSU authors, and helps patrons with finding books for research.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guyangco said this job allowed her to develop new skills personally and professionally.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBeing able to communicate with real people really helped me. I was more introverted in high school, and this made me step out of my comfort zone. She liked WSU because of the community and its honors college.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harbert started working in the WSU Libraries in her sophomore year as a clerical assistant. She applied to almost every library position, knowing she would fit well anywhere in the library environment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy mom works in a library, so I grew up volunteering at the library and always being there,\u201d she said. \u201cI knew it was a good place to work, especially as a college student. I\u2019ve been here ever since, and I love it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a clerical assistant, Harbert handled tasks such as circulation desk duties and book organization. She\u2019s since been promoted to a staff assistant, where she oversees students in her previous role.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI feel like this job helped me a lot with school and being able to navigate the library,\u201d she said. \u201cThe other staff and students are very welcoming and understanding of everything. I always love coming into work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harbert plans to pursue a master\u2019s degree in criminal justice at Seattle University, building upon the skills and experiences gained during her time at WSU.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/libraries.wsu.edu\/friends\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-2024-04-20-at-3.01.59\u202fPM-763x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-945\" width=\"393\" height=\"527\" srcset=\"https:\/\/libraries.wsu.edu\/friends\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-2024-04-20-at-3.01.59\u202fPM-763x1024.png 763w, https:\/\/libraries.wsu.edu\/friends\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-2024-04-20-at-3.01.59\u202fPM-447x600.png 447w, https:\/\/libraries.wsu.edu\/friends\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-2024-04-20-at-3.01.59\u202fPM-768x1031.png 768w, https:\/\/libraries.wsu.edu\/friends\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-2024-04-20-at-3.01.59\u202fPM.png 992w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 393px) 100vw, 393px\" \/><figcaption>Clancy Andrews<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>From Okanogan, Washington, Clancy Andrews is receiving a dual degree in data analytics, with a minor in computer science, and applied mathematics.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrews\u2019 journey at WSU was driven by a passion for learning something new and continuing his family\u2019s WSU legacy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrews has worked in the WSU Libraries\u2019 systems department since 2022 and enjoys everything the position has taught him.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a technical assistant, Andrews ensures all computers in Terrell, Holland, and Owen libraries&nbsp; are working properly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c[My supervisors] are willing to teach me different things that are new and that I might not be able to learn from my degree. So this job helps me get a well-rounded experience in terms of technology,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through this role, Andrewshas gained a deeper understanding of computer hardware and the importance of software updates, invaluable skills he says will serve him in his career.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As he continues his job search, Andrews plans to continue working in the systems department until September.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"As graduation approaches for WSU seniors, we\u2019re taking a closer look at the WSU Libraries\u2019 senior student workers and their experiences working in the libraries.
