Home economics, in one form or another, has held a presence at Washington State University since its beginnings. A department of Domestic Economy was established in 1905. The College of Home Economics was formed in 1916. In 1982 it merged with the College of Agriculture.

A short historical account is included in the descriptive finding aid for Records of the Dean of the College of Home Economics, Archives 167. Several historical accounts are included with the body records described below, Archives 243.

The records of the College of Home Economics consist of an assembled historical file, drawn from many sources. The records were assembled over time, chiefly by Alberta Hill. These records include various historical and biographical accounts, reports and reviews of the home economics program, photographs, and press clippings. Also included are files of correspondence, reports and memoranda regarding the 75th anniversary of the program, along with further corresponded and report files concerning the merger with the College of Agriculture in 1982.

Acquisition Information

Records and papers pertaining to the College/Department of Home Economics were transferred to the Washington State University Libraries in 1999 (Accession Number UA99-06) by Alberta Hill, retired Dean of the College of Home Economics.
