Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Harry "Hack" Applequist attended Washington State College and received a degree in geology in 1916. He played tackle on the undefeated 1915 football team which went to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on January 1, 1916 and defeated Brown University. He also played on the baseball team.

He followed the profession of geology for a time, but was offered a job on the WSU coaching staff by Athletic Director J. Fred Bohler and became assistant football coach and head baseball coach from 1923-1926. In 1923 he married Mildred Perry, also a WSU graduate. Again leaving WSU, he accepted a coaching position in Sacramento, California, and eventually became coordinator of the Sacramento City Unified School District's entire physical education program, a position he retained until he retired in 1956.

Hach Applequist died November, 1976 in Sacramento at the age of 86.
